Privacy Policy

Effective 2 July 2026
The short version: everything you log in GastroLog stays on your phone. There's no account, no ads, and no tracking. The only thing we collect is anonymous usage counts — that a feature was used, never what you logged in it.

What the app stores — on your device only

GastroLog is a private health diary. Everything you enter is saved in a local database on your phone:

None of this is uploaded anywhere. It is not synced to a server, not backed up by us, and not visible to us. If your device backs up app data (for example through iCloud device backup), that backup is governed by Apple's privacy practices, not ours.

What we collect

Anonymous usage counts. The app records that things happened — "a log was saved", "a report was exported", "the upgrade screen was shown" — so we can see which features are used and improve them. These events carry a random ID that is not linked to you, and they never include what you logged: no meals, no symptoms, no notes, no readings, no name, no email. We use PostHog, an analytics service, to store these counts. There is no advertising, no sign-up, and nothing that tracks you across other apps or websites.

Purchases

If you buy GastroLog Plus, Apple processes the payment. We use RevenueCat to confirm the purchase and unlock Plus on your device, under the same random ID. We never see your payment details.

Reminders

Reminders are local notifications, scheduled and delivered entirely by your phone. Their content never names your condition or symptoms, so nothing sensitive shows on your lock screen.

Sharing and export

You can generate a PDF summary for a clinician and share it using your phone's share sheet. That sharing happens on your terms, through the apps you choose — we are not part of it and never receive a copy.

Your control

Because your data never reaches us, privacy-law rights like access, correction, and erasure (under the NZ Privacy Act 2020, GDPR, CCPA, and similar) are entirely in your hands — there is nothing held by us to request.

Children

GastroLog is made for adults managing a medical condition and is not directed at children under 13.

A note on what GastroLog is

GastroLog records and displays what you log. It does not give medical advice, diagnoses, or treatment recommendations. Decisions about your health belong with you and your clinicians.

Changes to this policy

If a future version of the app adds a feature that uses a server — for example, optional voice capture — we will update this policy before that feature ships and say plainly what is sent, where, and why. The effective date above always reflects the current version.
